Conversation Over Walkie Talkie

Trail Lace Grand Raid Ventoux

In preparation for the UTMB, I am back Trail Lace Grand Raid Ventoux. A 100km D 5125 m on the land of the Giant of Provence. A 2010 edition marked by a bitter wind and snow at the summit of Ventoux. I finished 72nd out of 130 in 8:56 p.m.. A trail
very fast when I'm burnt legs in the first 20 kilometers to over 10km / h average. I miss a tag ravito 1km from the 70 km and gardening for 35min before finding my way.

Does Miralax Have A Flavor

Transvesubienne 2010

Matt and I have participated in this legendary race, non-standard statistics, 3300 D + / D-4300, 84 km, a sun lead, 75% ramp-worn bike, 100% of raids mode Enduro / dh demanding, 2 deficient enduro bikes with rigid boundary than hardware ...

I will not comment on how long this competition that we finished between 10.30 and 11am race, 2 plates Transvesubienne 2010 that display the sticker "finisher" and a phrase to sum up: "Only the brave!"

Raid EDHEC 2010

Debriefing Raid EDHEC 2010 attended by: The Team

strung (Gus Basile, Matt, Laurence)
Team Désespé'Raid (Ben, Lucy, Henry)

It starts with the statistics, about 250km and 11000 D + 5 days.
course:

Thursday, May 20 -> we attack with a 25km prologue in The Brig, a small village in the valley of the Roya, and CO in the city. The scenery is magnificent Mercantour mountains on one side, the Italian border on the other, it's nice, temperatures are in season, water from the river to take a shower at night is frozen ... what else?

Friday, waking at 3:30, the raid began really long first stage, 40km of trail, 30 mountain bike, a rafting to finish the day ... we enter the heart of the matter. The organization is top on the supplies, time is always good and the sun begins to heat severely. For the course, the Brig, descend on St. Dalmas de Tende, then crosses the side of Mount Bonsapel Fontan or to join our bike ahead. The one hand for a nice loop with 1000 D + terminal direction 226 to the west, it goes down into the valley Cairos. We drop the bikes, we decided to do the loop starting bonus to join the rafting direction Col du Mont Agu through Saorge. Breil sur Roya to bivouac on the old football stadium, showers are always closed ... tamps the river!

Saturday, waking at 4am, wow grass mat '! We're going to pass Brouis trail, then head Sospel by trails, scenery a bit different, no more snow-capped mountains, the sea is visible, large hills, the wooded landscape is less, we believe the high Savoy trays, flowers, grass, hot sun, the day will be hard ... we reel off again towards the top of Penas, then along the ridge. The trail is part hurts, it will not call right away, my knees begin to ache, lack of training with a bag too heavy on the back, we'll know for next time! A reel, change of activity, from mountain biking to the Col de Turini by ... the road is long, very long ... in addition to abdominal pain me back until midway through, it goes, the legs are, it runs quietly to the summit. We continue on towards the summit of GR52A escaillou to attack the descent as we like, a single track with some technical passages involved, special mention to Lucy, who despite his XC bike was thrown into the thick steep! impressive the little woman, hard to keep pace behind. The descent went well, not too much of a fall, no broken equipment, we plunge on Reel (Bivouac), and the day ends with a CO points, or we're doing medium, lack of experience, good physical fatigue, route options not very smart, do not worry, paella evening is to restore the fishery! Sunday

soft day, waking at 3, 2800 D 70km +. Premiere climb steep trail towards the summit of Peira Cava, the scenery is always on top, special mention has to be surprised by Henry's pace in the first part of the climb, then it's not good quality duracel, ca va not take long, but it is a pleasure to advance a good pace. for further course very fast towards the Canyon Guiou (Terminal 55, south-east). And the criticism comes, canyons it pisses me off, the water is cold, security is limited to novices on points, the canyon is too long, fatigue causes of falls, morale goes down, I'm not the most favorable opinion about this activity. As much I loved the rafting, as the canyon was a nightmare for me. Anyway, you keep smiling, I found my bike for a great step towards Peille 40km, very pretty village, best known for his via ferrata, one of the most beautiful in France. We pass by the Col de Braus, fat laces up in under a blazing sun, I improve my tan, then down through the top of Farguet, Saint Bernard Pass. Here I am introducing a special mention to Matt that we met with the team in the Cordée Part descent, my front derailleur was blocked beyond repair because I do not understand where the problem come, Matt takes a look above, is the old stone that was blocking my purview, magic, everything works again, thank you Matt! We pull the floss Peille to bivouac with the little gus, cool finish, without the optional step loop bonus pays well, we arrived early at the camp and physically fit. Tonight is sandwiched American beer, massage therapist, is on top!

Monday: it begins with the via ferrata Peille then chained with 15 terminals trail towards Saint Dalmas Peille. The I congratulate my little GPS, Lucy, reliable 100% wireless option for high-end model! The trail was short but not easy referral level, some teams have paid dearly (I will not mention anyone, but if anyway, issy adventure made me dream about this step, a huge fitness and it gives away a counselor team lost!) directs Lucie very well, we take the most direct route, while nickel password! At St. Martin Peille we take the bike for a final step towards La Turbie, the height of the Revere, Observatory of Nice, down on the Place Massena, the best!!

Ultimately raid hard but very beautiful, varied landscapes, atmosphere friendly between the teams and the team organizer, souvenirs, boxes of pasta Rana! Thank you all for this great adventure!

Ben.
